A History of God by Karen Armstrong
I have never written a book review before, but now that I have a blog where I can share my thoughts and ramblings, and that this book, history of God is such an extraordinary piece of writing, and also that I am really getting bored on this Eid day, I thought I should just write a short review.
I am personally very critical when I read books with religious “flavor” that doesn’t however means that I don’t like reading them, in fact I really love reading about religious history, so when I first go to know about Karen Armstrong, I was instantly curious to read what she has written.
the problem with religious books however is that the most of the writers have their own baggage of religious beliefs which they try to justify through their writing, rarely you would come across someone who is bold and brave enough to swim against the odds and his/her own beliefs to write something that is truly and truly unbiased and, Karen Armstrong’s History of God is one such book.
Soon after reading they very first pages, you will realize that this book complements its title. It’s written with in-depth research on the subject of how various religions, cultures and civilizations have perceived the concept of God. The subject is intense and mind boggling and will surely break many of your preconceived notions about the idea of God.
- You will learn how the concept and idea of God has evolved in the last 4000 years
- You might for the first time approach and review the idea of God in this manner
- You will regret why you didn’t read this book before
If you have already read, I would like to hear from you. Please let us know what you think about it. Till then, have a great Eid.
